COVID Vaccine 2

I haven’t written much about the pandemic as I truly felt that we have each had our own journeys through the last 18 months…but…I have just had my second vaccine. For once it pays to have a few years under my belt!

The message is really clear - we all have to do our part to have a global effect.

Having my second jab has meant so much more than I thought it would. My passport was due to run out in March, we were in a lockdown; no-one was going anywhere but I wanted to be ready.

It’s the same feeling with my vaccine. I now feel ready to take on the future.

I am so grateful for all those who have sacrificed their family time, their personal well-being for the greater good. If there is any group who can relate to the stresses and emotions it has to be military families.

I have tried to ignore the news, the media, telling me I’m isolated, locked down, lonely. I’ve been there before; you can’t tell me anything new but I can choose to filter.

For those families who have not experienced this before I would say: seek out your military community.

We know what it is to see a loved one go to work and not know if they will be coming back.

We know what it is to try to explain to our children what is happening, why a loved one has to walk out the door.

We know what it is to feel that there is nothing left in the emotional pot and that you possibly can’t dig any deeper.

We are with you.

If you feel that there is no-one who understands, seek out someone who has had a similar experience. You will find that you can laugh, that you can refill your emotional jar and people do understand.

Find your tribe and if you think you can’t then come and join ours. As military spouses we don’t know everyone but we do have an idea as to what everyone has been through. The difference is that you don’t see our challenges but I hope that I can share some of those challenges to show why we are seen as resilient and stoic.

Thank you to everyone who has kept me safe and given the world a future.
